Meet NHSC VP of Facilities Tracy Pucciarelli Borne
We’re just two weeks away from the start of the 2019 North Hills Soccer Club spring season and that means we’re busy getting our teams finalized, practice and game schedules set, and fields prepped.
We’ve added three
new fields
this year and that means our Vice President of Facilities, Tracy Pucciarelli Borne, is busier than ever!
Tracy, a Pittsburgh native who played soccer for both the NHSC and North Hills High School, has been a pivotal member of the club since her oldest daughter started playing in 2015 but it was her passion for creating safe spaces for kids that prompted her to join the club’s board of directors in 2018.
As a structural engineer, Tracy has an eye for all things safety and goal safety tops her list. Not only can goals topple over if someone hangs on them, high wind can (and has!) blow over full-size goals.
“Goal safety is one of the most misunderstood and underrated things on a soccer field,” she said. “An unanchored goal is dangerous, and my objective is to bring awareness to this subject to as many people as possible.”
And bring awareness she has!
A few years ago, Tracy discovered an effective counterweight system to improve goal safety and
the policy was quickly adopted
by the NHSC.
Since then, Tracy has spearheaded the club’s efforts to purchase more sandbags to properly secure goals and educate parents about goal safety.
“Our children are trusting that we are looking out for their safety. As adults, this is our most important job,” she said. “By educating the adults about goal safety, it is my hope that everyone joins me in my efforts to create a safer soccer field.”
Before the start of each season, Tracy recruits board members and other volunteers to inspect all goals, repair and replace damaged goals and nets, fill and sort sandbags, stake and line fields, and complete just about any other task needed to get the fields ready.
Without a doubt, the NHSC would not be a success without Tracy’s hard work. We thank her for her dedication to our club and the safety of our kids!
