Mike Kummer, RJ Franz take over as Co-Directors of Coaching, Player Development

The North Hills Soccer Club is pleased to announce Mike Kummer and RJ Franz as Co-Directors of Coaching and Player Development.

Mike has more than 30 years of soccer coaching experience at various levels including club (North Hills School Club), classic (Pittsburgh Strikers, North United and FC Pittsburgh), and high school (North Hills boys and girls). He has also held several administrative positions including Youth Academy Director at the Pittsburgh Strikers. He previously served on the board of the Ambassadors Futbal Club and at NHSC as Director of Coaching in the early 2010s.

RJ has over 12 years of soccer coaching experience at various levels including club (North Hills Soccer Club) and classic (Century North, Century Steel and Northern Steel). He has also served on the North Hills Soccer Club Board of Directors in various roles for more than a decade, as Northern Steel Rivets Director for ages U10-U14 and as president of North Hills Girls Soccer Boosters.

In their new roles, Mike and RJ look to provide enhanced resources and instruction guides to NHSC coaches for players to learn and succeed in a fun, competitive environment.

There is an ongoing need for coaches of all age groups in NHSC, especially at the U8 level.

Coaches play a pivotal role in teaching not only fundamental soccer skills but instilling teamwork, discipline and sportsmanship, and inspiring a lifelong love for the game.

No coaching experience is necessary. Mike and RJ are committed to training new and seasoned coaches alike, offering guidance throughout the year.

Without enough coaches, NHSC risks rostering large teams resulting in reduced opportunities for individualized instruction and less playing time. We may even be forced to turn players away.
